Wreck of the Hesperus, and also survived a shoddy restoration. It was blisteded with rust pits which exploded from under
at least 20-25 coats of primer, and at least 15 coats of black paint to cover up all the pitted rust underneath. As you see, the
bedplate is representation of what I was up against.
I should have taken more pictures, as always, but the sheer shock of discovering what was under the previous
"rustoration job" was enough to make me start eating vegetarian. Required a full strip, filling, filing,
sanding, spraying, spraying, and more spraying, before decoration and dulling of new finish was applied.
